Mother of dragging victim settles lawsuit

PaTLA member working pro bono negotiated $1.25 M settlement

(7/21/2004) -- The mother of a Lewistown man who was dragged to death behind a truck in 2000 has reached a settlement with her son’s killer. The settlement of $1.25 million stemmed from the wrongful death of 40-year-old Joseph Land and was negotiated by the family’s attorney, Scott B. Cooper of Harrisburg, who worked pro bono. According to Cooper, the settlement will be held in expectation of any future earnings of Robert Freed, who plead guilty to third-degree murder and is now serving a sentence of 22 1/2 to 45 years. The complete story is available from the Patriot-News online.

Mr. Cooper has also attached a copy of Mrs. George’s wrongful death complaint.
